Finally, the second merchantman is ready and sailing! As you can see from the picture, it is quite larger than the previous - but not as big as a trireme.
It is modelled from what the Greeks called an akatos. It somehow looked similar to a war galley, especially because of the prow, and had 30 to 50 crew and could go by oars as well as sail.
Here is a contemporary illustration: this is the Europa, from a graffito found in Pompei (the Romans called this kind od ship an actuaria).
With this the first batch of the series is now complete!
